Do you know Paul Klee? He was a German artist and a favorite of painting, collage and engravings. The lively canvas representing colorful houses and a castle is the best emblem of Bosa . A river that passes in the middle, the low houses of the tannery on one side, the medieval quarter on the other, a massive bulk of a castle positioned on a hill dominating everything. Welcome to Bosa, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. and definitely a MUST of the things to see in Northern Sardinia. Bosa is located within a sub-region, the Planargia. This corner of Sardinia, less touched by large mass tourist flows, has had the advantage of retaining its physiognomy, maintaining authenticity and simplicity. Exploring this whole area will enrich your trip, making it truly authentic.
What to see in this area
Sas Conzas district : For almost a century the center of Planargia was the capital of the tanneries in Italy, whose high quality productions were appreciated and sold in the Peninsula and abroad. Over time, slowly, the activity decreased and then ceased in the second part of the twentieth century. The terraced houses represent the history of the Sas Conzas district, we suggest you see the Museum.
Sa Costa district: We are on the northern bank of the Temo river, and entering the narrow streets of the Sa Costa district, we take a leap into the past: we return to the Middle Ages with an additional charm: Art and Tradition. You get lost pleasantly among the beautiful cobbled streets, in a magnificent walk through alleys, arcades, squares and steep stairways.
Ponte Vecchio di Bosa: A bridge so beautiful that it was included by Skyscanner among the 30 most beautiful bridges in Italy, together with those of Venice, the old bridge of Florence and many others. It connects the inhabited center of Sa Costa with Sas Conzas, in the surroundings also the cathedral, another thing to see.
Malaspina Castle: Built around the 12th century by the Tuscan Malaspina family, from its position, on top of a hill, it was possible to control all the lands and any enemy incursions. Now little is left, if not the skeleton, the walls and the imposing stone towers. Inside there is also a small church with magnificent frescoes, from up there the view is amazing.
The beaches: The planargia is characterized by a very indented, low and stony coast that occasionally grants some space to small coves. The smooth white rocks of Cane Malu and Poggiu Columbu introduce Bosa. In the locality of Bosa Marina, guarded by a beautiful Aragonese tower, there is a small port and a sandy beach. The coast continues mostly pebbly, with the exception of Turas beach (of dark sand, much loved by surfers) to the beaches of Porto Alabe, a splendid seaside resort. A little further north is the beach of S'Abba Druche, especially suitable for families with children.
Archaeological areas: For lovers of the nuragic people we suggest the archaeological area of Tamuli, with the remains of a nuragic village and a necropolis with tombs of the giants as well as six curious menhirs called 'betili'. But also the archaeological complex of S. Sabina, near Silanus, which sees a nuraghe and an 11th century church side by side. An area full of things to see, we are always in Northern Sardinia.
Authentic villages: In Sardinia, the planargia is a land rich in art and tradition. There are splendid villages to see characterized by murals, museums, extraordinary Sardinian art pieces and with many small artisans who continue to carry on their centenary craft.
Mark it immediately on the map among the things to see and do if you come to Sardinia , North area. You can leave Bosa or Alghero, the suggestive journey to the coast will thrill you in the same way. A 45 km road that will allow you to stay suspended between the sea and the mountains, a real theater of irresistible views, especially at sunset.
What to see in this area
Rest areas : Stop in some rest areas and admire the volcanic walls of pink trachyte, the darkest shade of the volcanic plunge towards Bosa. In Spring comes the feast of the yellow of the broom that matches the blue of the sea.
Capo Marrargiu : Declared SIC (site of community importance), it is a wild stage of rare beauty, among golden eagle nests and the very rare griffon vulture that in these parts has chosen to procreate. An area to explore with our magnificent trekking and hiking.
La Speranza Beach: The only modestly sized sandy coastline along the scenic route. We are a few km from Alghero, it is a sandy beach with white-golden sand and, partially, with pebbles. It is equipped with bathing facilities, bar and restaurant. The name derives from the small church built near the beach.
Alghero is definitely one of the destinations and things to see absolutely if you visit Northern Sardinia . It represents a unique city of its kind. It can be considered a mix of architecture, language and even cuisine, in fact over the centuries it has undergone several dominions including that of the Dorias (the builders of the wall fortress still visible today), the Aragonese and the Catalans. Right under the dominion of the Catalans Alghero developed enormously and is still strongly influenced today and can be seen through art, gastronomy with typical dishes, the language (some elderly people continue to speak Algherese) and the way of life. Capo Caccia is one of the natural symbols of Alghero and of Sardinia , characterized by imposing limestone cliffs that have been modeled over time and fall overhanging the crystalline water. In the surroundings you can admire splendid beaches , submerged and semi-submerged caves , protected natural areas and many places to practice outdoor activities (we recommend taking a look at our guided excursions in the Alghero area.
What to see in this area
Historic Center : The historic center is certainly among the most interesting and fascinating areas of the city, in fact imagine a medieval village entirely enclosed by fortified walls. The Beaches: It may seem trivial but we know very well that the beaches in Sardinia are many, both in the north and in the south and each area contains real jewels. The whole area is to be explored.
Archaeological sites: In the surroundings of Alghero there is an absolute archaeological relief that is absolutely worth seeing if you are a lover of the history of Sardinia. It is a majestic nuragic village of Palmavera, which is one of the most important and significant sites that the nuragic civilization has built on the island. No less important is the necropolis of Anghelu Ruju, the largest in the Sardinian territory and the excavations that took place about 120 years ago brought to light 31 hypogea. Another important necropolis is that of Santu Pedru made up of 10 tombs
What can I say, I believe that in Stintino there is one of the most beautiful beaches in Sardinia but not only, it has been included in a list of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean: La Pelosa. There sand is white , the conformation is nothing short of spectacular and the seabed is shallow , for many meters giving prominence to the water turquoise initially that gradually changes color become increasingly dark. The shades are infinite, all this defines this beach as really one of the most beautiful in Europe and absolutely one of the things to see in Northern Sardinia. Uncontaminated places, isolated landscapes, rare plant and animal species, sui generis historical events. The Asinara island in the extreme north-west tip of Sardinia, the watershed between the open sea and the gulf of the same name, is a world unto itself, to be discovered.
What to see in this area
La Pelosa Beach : The beach has a limited number and you need to buy a ticket to access it. Usually, in mid-July, it is full booked for the whole of August. So be careful in case of programming. Alternatively, rely on our service, there will be no oversights.
Asinara Excursion : Many decades of isolation have had a positive impact, preserving the natural environment of the island, saving it from any overbuilding or allowing the birth of the Asinara National Park. We recommend an excursion to the island, by sea or by land. It is not possible to lodge and / or access it with your own car / motorbike / camper.
Panoramic Points : In the surroundings of the beach there are many panoramic points where you can admire extraordinary views, both during the day and at sunset.
Located on a promontory overlooking the sea, Castelsardo offers us a panorama and an atmosphere of great charm. It is inevitable to dwell on the beauty of this which is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, a photograph from any perspective you look at it can be easily transformed into a perfect postcard to send to relatives while on vacation. In the immediate vicinity another coastal tourist area of enormous value, Costa Paradiso. The view of the sea and the nature surrounding Costa Paradiso represent the undisputed beauty of a holiday in Sardinia: crystal clear water, beaches, uncontaminated territory and breathtaking views.
This complex of residences and services was built at the end of the sixties in the middle of a natural park, inserted in the Mediterranean scrub among the unmistakable granite rocks that characterize this stretch of coast. Things to see in North Sardinia? This area definitely.
What to see in this area
Castle and historic center : As always, there is the signature of the Dorias. Also in Castelsardo the Ligurians have built a fortress perched on a promontory and that seeing it gives the feeling that the place has experienced years of well-being and happiness alternating with wars and battles for the conquest of the territory. Beyond the castle, the historic center offers splendid walks between art and tradition.
The Beaches : Lu Bagnu, a cream-colored sand and rocky walls with Mediterranean scrub will be a perfect contour to the blue sea. But also Cala Ostina and Li Junchi, as well as the splendid beaches of the Costa Paradiso. Our itinerary planning service will also help you point out remote and wild beaches.
L 'Anglona : Castelsardo is part of the sub-historical region of Anglona. The territory is characterized by a predominantly hilly morphology, composed of small plateaus of volcanic or calcareous nature, lying on a tuffaceous base. The coast has an alternation of beaches and rocky ridges. The real feature, however, lies in the enormous cultural and artistic heritage enclosed in the magnificent and authentic villages.
In our opinion, Lake Coghinas is at the top of the 25 things to see in Northern Sardinia , especially in the hinterland. Immersed in the surroundings of Oschiri, around it valleys of Mediterranean scrub and woods of holm oaks and cork trees are lost visibly. The winds are channeled between the inlets of the mountains, creating a climate suitable for the life of many plant and animal species: largemouth bass, perch, catfish, carp and Louisiana shrimp are the prey of sport fishing practitioners. Uncontaminated nature is the host, perfect for excursions and tours among spring waterfalls, old bridges, ghost towns and villages rich in tradition and food and wine delights. There is only one way to better explore the area: rely on us.
What to see in this area
Santa Maria Coghinas : Near the lake there are several villages to visit. The first is Santa Maria Coghinas, although the town is located in the historic region of Anglona and has all the customs and traditions of Gallura.
Oschiri : Oschiri, this town of about 3200 inhabitants basically lives on agro-pastoral productions. The village is known throughout the island above all for an incredible specialty: the Panadas, puff pastry filled with meat and natural flavors, a delight. The landscapes of Oschiri sleep immersed in an incredible unspoiled nature made up of mountains, hills, waterfalls, lakes and rivers.
Ponte Diana : Also to be considered is the incredible and majestic architectural work of Ponte Diana, a construction made in 1925 which was, above all in the past, the most important access road from Tempio towards the Logudoro and the Goceano. The lake is a popular destination for those who practice sport fishing but not only, it is perfect for Bird Watching and during the summer season canoe and kayak excursions are organized.
Archaeological sites : Majestic castles, megalptic and nuragic complexes including Nuraghi and domus de janas. However, there is a site of enormous historical importance: the rock altar of Santo Stefano. The rock altar is nothing more than a granite bench on which a series of grooves with different geometric shapes have been engraved with a precise sequence: triangles, squares, circles but also dozens of cupels and crosses. In the same area there are several rocks steeped in charm and sacredness including hollows used for incubation rites.
in the surroundings of Aggius, a magical village of 1600 inhabitants and located 500 meters above sea level, there is a sensational panoramic road. One of the things to see in Northern Sardinia , walking this road towards the Valle della Luna means admiring a plateau from which huge boulders smoothed by the winds emerge that attract climbers from all over Europe.
What to see in this area
Panoramic road : Take the panoramic road from the north towards Aggius, the panorama is guaranteed.
Aggius : Definitely a Must if you go through the overview. The village, well-kept and neat, in the stone houses restored with love and in the twisted paved alleys, bears the signs of care and respect for centuries-old traditions. And in fact, Aggius is the only town in the area that, in addition to being part of the "authentic villages of Italy", can boast the Orange Flag of the Touring Club.
Monte Pulchiana : Monte Pulchiana is the largest granite monolith in Sardinia, located on a plateau in northern Gallura, at 550-673 m above sea level. It is an inselberg that originated from the disintegration of the rock by a process of hydrolysis. It has a characteristic rounded shape and is partially covered by low and sparse scrub; the rocky surface has a pinkish-yellow color due to oxidation processes. Magnificent to explore the area through trekking and climbing.
Sardinia is not only sea and coast and this site is a demonstration of this. The spectacular landscape near Monte Limbara is one of the 25 things to see in Northern Sardinia . An imposing mountain, where the erosion of water and wind over the millennia has given bizarre and scenographic shapes to its granite boulders, which seem almost suspended, whitened by the winter snow, shining with all shades of green in the rest of the year. An area full of hiking trails, between Mediterranean scrub and natural monuments, all to be explored.
What to see in this area
The Sequoias : Planted about 85 years ago, they belong to the "Pavari arboretum" and reach a height of 35 meters. A unique spectacle, just think that they have been included in the list of monumental trees registered by the Forestry Corps and Environmental Surveillance, Territorial Service Departmental Inspectorate of Tempio Pausania.
Punta Balistreri : The 12-kilometer 'la summit' route leads to Punta Balistreri, the highest peak in Limbara (1362 meters), which takes its name from a Tempiese fugitive who took refuge there in the 17th century. He was never found, protected by mountains and communities in solidarity with him. The summit was first the NATO communications base, then the Air Force
We are sure that the hinterland of Sardinia will make you fall in love with this magnificent island even more. Think of the very small but of incredible religious importance Luogosanto . It is easy to understand that its name derives from “Locus Santus” and in its territory there are 22 religious buildings and many small rural churches. You will discover ancient places of faith, with religious traditions of Gallura that are still relived today with processions and patronal feasts. We include this area among the 25 things to see in Northern Sardinia , because even the religious traditions deserve to be seen and lived. To better discover the area, we recommend that you rely on our detailed advice through our itinerary planning service.
What to see in this area
Luogosanto : Luogosanto is a picturesque medieval town of about 2000 inhabitants in the historic center of Gallura. Those who arrive in Luogosanto will have the impression of being in a place out of time, where everything flows slowly and silence dominates. The inhabited center rises at the foot of Monte Juanni, which has provided, over the centuries, the sturdy granite with which the houses, churches and streets are built.
The Holy Door : The most important church is the basilica of Nostra Signora di Luogosanto, the most important church in the country, built in Romanesque style and in granite blocks. In the eighteenth century it received the privilege of the Holy Door, which since the seventies of the twentieth century is a bronze door, the work of Luca Luchetti, which is opened to pilgrims every seven years and remains open for a whole year.
The churches : More than 20 religious buildings are scattered around the town of Luogosanto. From the church of San Leonardo to that of Santo Stefano passing through the church of Santa Maria. It is wonderful to follow a religious itinerary to discover local history and legends.
Among the things to see in Sardinia there is certainly the point at the extreme north of the island. Capo Testa , a peninsula located a few kilometers from Santa Teresa Gallura, is an area of considerable importance. The connection with Sardinia is given by an isthmus which at the narrowest point does not exceed 100 meters in width. Capo Testa is a Special Conservation Area and Site of Community Interest , it is characterized by a singularity of the landscape. It is marked by the presence of a particularly jagged and articulated coastal morphology which is followed by long and narrow inlets, islands and islets. Not only that, the whole area is very important from a zoological and botanical point of view , there are in fact several protected endemic species, both animals and plants.
What to see in this area
Capo Testa Lighthouse : If there is one place to visit in Capo Testa it is certainly its lighthouse, actually there are 2 but one is abandoned. The view from here is amazing, facing Corsica and so white that it seems to sparkle on the promontory from which it dominates the Valle della Luna, an area rich in energy and land of hippies.
Valle Della Luna : In 1967, thousands of young Americans converged in San Francisco who embodied the common desire for justice, peace, love and freedom in terms of social coexistence. The "Hippies" were born, an experience that spread also in Italy, and in Sardinia. Coming to the "Valley of the Moon", a glimpse of the magnificent coast, will make you go back 50 years as a Hippy community lives permanently.
The beaches : Today the granite rock of Capo Testa is the natural habitat of swimmers eager to lie in the sun and forget all the problems of everyday life. In fact, along the high and jagged coast there are numerous inlets that hide enchanting beaches. They are all to be discovered.
Palau is certainly one of the things to see in Northern Sardinia . Splendid granite rocks that over the millennia have been shaped by wind and water, with its splendid port and strategic position to visit the Maddalena archipelago. If you take a ride in the cute old town, as well as admire the beautiful ones murals , don't forget to pay a visit to the Ethnographic museum. The surroundings are dotted with archaeological sites and panoramic points, such as the magnificent viewpoint La Roccia Dell'Orso , an authentic pearl of palau.
What to see in this area
Roccia Dell'Orso : This monument is nothing more than a granite rock of about 120 meters which over the millennia has been eroded and shaped by atmospheric agents giving it the shape of a bear. The site undoubtedly dominates the sea of Palau so much so that it was also chosen as the town's coat of arms, and was also used in antiquity by navigators as a natural reference point.
The Beaches : Palau is clearly popular also for the beautiful beaches that are located near the city, on the coast from one side to the other there is an alternation of beaches and granite rocks, all associated with the splendid color of the sea and the presence of dunes and Mediterranean scrub. La sciumara, cala marinella and Porto Pollo are just some of the beaches to visit.
Li Mizzani : This site is nothing more than a tomb of the giants, small in size but of great historical importance.
The Archipelago of La Maddalena is undoubtedly considered one of the most evocative landscapes not only of Sardinia but of everything. the mediterranean sea. Intense aromas of the Mediterranean scrub and incredible transparency of the sea. Impossible to describe the beaches of the La Maddalena Archipelago . Only a dip in the crystal clear waters and a walk on the fine white sand can make you understand the amazing beauty that this corner of Sardinia offers to the visitor. There is so much to see in this northern area of Sardinia.
What to see in this area
La Maddalena Island: An island that represents a disarming beauty, with 45 km of perimeter between beaches of irresistible charm and cover landscapes. To name a few Cala Spalmatore, Bassa Trinita, Punta Tegge and Cala Lunga which are also the most famous on the island.
Caprera : Another splendid earthly paradise. The granites gently reach the beaches of Cala Napoletana and the Spiaggia dei due mari. Here there is also to visit Cala Coticcio, known by the name of Thaiti for the Caribbean colors, and the beach of the Shipwreck, so called for the old wreck now half-buried on one side of the beach.
Island of Budelli : Solitary and wild, the authentic pearl of the whole archipelago is here, on this island. This is the pink beach of budelli, now off limits to protect its singular conformation. This place is a rare splendor that stands out for the clarity of the waters and strikes for the particularity of its sand, colored pink by the shells of particular marine animals.
Other Islands : The La Maddalena National Park has 60 islets and minor spikes and in addition to the already described La Maddalena, Caprera and Budelli, we also recommend visiting Santo Stefano, Santa Maria, Spargi and Razzoli. The best way is by sea, also because most of them are unreachable by land.
Porto Cervo is undoubtedly the capital of Costa Smeralda and in the summer it becomes an extraordinary and sparkling parade of yachts, yachts and famous people: in the square it is easy to find yourself shopping with movie and television stars. The seaside village was built around a natural inlet that resembles a deer. The old port dates back to the 1960s, when with a brilliant intuition Prince Karim Aga Khan IV , fascinated by the beauty of the coast, decided to buy the lands of this corner of Gallura . For those who do not like VIP areas, however, I recommend a tour of the Costa Smeralda, perhaps by car or by bike to admire one of the 25 things to see in Northern Sardinia.
What to see in this area
Porto Cervo Center and Marina : The center is built on a raised floor above the port. From the piazzetta delle Chiacchiere to the Sottopiazza there is an intrigue of alleys, windows, balconies, built in what has become the style of the Costa Smeralda, and of shops and boutiques with prestigious brands. Enchanting, dynamic, attentive to the environment: Porto Cervo Marina, which is one of the best equipped and welcoming docks in the Mediterranean, has been awarded the Blue Flag once again this year.
Costa Smeralda rocks : They have now become points of countless camera clicks, we recommend admiring the symbols of the Costa Smeralda. Two large granite rocks welcome tourists. The famous stone with the writing Costa Smeralda is located to the south, on the road that passes from Olbia, but one is also to the north, on the road that leads to Baja Sardinia.
Grande Pevero : The arched expanse of soft white sand of the Grande Pevero plunges into the turquoise, green and blue reflections of the sea, flanked by granite rocks shaped by time and Mediterranean scrub. Behind it there are well-kept golf courses that make the location a popular destination for passionate golfers.
Other beaches : This privileged place for many VIPs also offers some of the most beautiful beaches on the island. White beach, grande pevero, romazzino and capriccioli to name a few. Our advice always remains that of the Tour of the Costa Smeralda.
Gregoland : For families with children we recommend this baby fun. Gregoland is an 11 thousand square meter free 5-star playground with breathtaking views.
Majestic, unspoiled, magnificent. The island of Tavolara is in the middle of the natural marine protected area Tavolara - Punta Coda Cavallo. Tavolara also has its King, Tonino. Between history and legend: the documents signed by Charles Albert of Savoy have been lost, but the ruler of the smallest kingdom in the world really exists and is holding onto "his" island. The island can only be reached by sea , between the splendor of the small beaches and the spectacular viewpoint on top of the island. Definitely one of the MUST of the things to see in Northern Sardinia.
What to see in this area
Earth spreader : A "tongue" of earth on which the very few buildings stand: two restaurants, a bar, some houses, a small cemetery, where the kings of Tavolara are buried. Spalmatore di Terra also has a nice guided path: a path that helps the exploration of the small Mediterranean scrub, also accompanied by small signs that tell about some of the island's curiosities.
NATO base : Only to be mentioned as it is an off-limits military zone. Few people know that about 30% of Tavolara's surface is occupied by a NATO base, which in particular occupies the territories of Punta Timone and Spiaggia Cala di Levante. Apart from the myths and legends that bind the base, it is currently safe that it is used for communications with submarines in the Mediterranean area.
You know the classic phrase “Sardinia is all beautiful! "Well it's true, it is an enchanting place where tourism is life, and which deserves to be discovered, understood, lived: breathtaking beaches, bays, inlets, sea, canyons, but also art, tradition, archeology, culture and tourism. There really is something for everyone. San Teodoro with its beaches represents one of the most beautiful areas in all of Sardinia .
What to see in this area
Cala Girgolu : Where the granite is sculpted by the wind, creating unique sculptures of its kind. Location located north of San Teodoro
Cala Suaraccia : Delightful cove located near Coda Cavallo, is part of the Protected Marine Area of Tavolara - Coda Cavallo. Recommended on mistral days because it is more sheltered.
Cala Brandinchi : Cala Brandinchi is one of the most famous beaches in all of Gallura and is the brightest pearl of San Teodoro. Fine sand and an intense white that stands out even more in contrast with the turquoise blue of the water.
Lu Impostu : Another splendid area and beach of San Teodoro. Fine white sea sand with different shades of blue, shallow water. Beach suitable for children
La Cinta : The beach creates a five kilometer long arch of fine white sand dunes, shallow and clear seabed. The colors and scents of this beach are of a disarming beauty, it is impossible not to fall in love with them.
It represents a magnificent internal area of the North Eastern part of Sardinia, an area to see near San Teodoro. Sardinia is a land to be explored above all with excursions, following nature trails and entering the hinterland to grasp the sense of an island that is unmatched in the rest of the world. Behind the town of San Teodoro rises an imposing mountain, Monte Nieddu , whose peak reaches 970 meters above the sea level. A challenge for those who are passionate about trekking or mountain biking, as the panorama observable from above amply repays the effort necessary to reach the top.
What to see in this area
Vedetta Palemonti : A wonderful area that is also suitable for families with children. The lookout is in fact easily reachable through one of the nature trails. It is a panoramic point from which to admire the Tavolara Marine Area.
Natural Pools : From the white sand and the turquoise sea of the beaches of San Teodoro to the fresh waters of the Monte Nieddu waterfalls it is an instant. Areas to explore in spring, summer and even in autumn. Over the centuries, the water has carved out the granite of the rock creating natural pools where it is possible to swim; in other words, Monte Nieddu gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself completely in the scenic wonders of Gallura.
Via Dei Carbonaii : In the nineteenth century many entrepreneurs came here to produce charcoal and so they built passages to facilitate the transport of coal from the mountain to the beaches of San Teodoro. This path is known as the "via dei carbonai" and that of Monte Nieddu is one of the best known on the island. Following in the footsteps of the past you arrive at the desired destination, a wonder of nature that allows you to embrace the sky and the sea with your gaze.
Tired of the usual destinations and crowded beaches? Are you looking for a place that only a privileged few know? We suggest the Oasis of Tepilora, certainly among the TOP 25 things to see in Northern Sardinia. We are talking about 8000 hectares of pristine forests, woods, clean air, springs and off-the-beaten path paths. This is the Tepilora Natural Park , an oasis of peace where you can rediscover a part of Sardinia where the intimacy of silence has remained perfectly intact. Here you can really live 360-degree experiences , including trekking, kayaking, authentic villages and much more.
What to see in this area
Capo Comino : In this area Francis Frad Coppola shot some scenes of a film. This tourist attraction owes its great beauty to the crystal clear water from which you can see its splendid seabed and to the white sand, which gives way to a rocky coast to the south, where you can admire half the island from the homonymous lighthouse.
Rio Posada : This area is invaluable. The 736 hectares of the mouth of the Rio Posada and a part of the river in the countryside of Torpè have in fact become the 171st protected area recognized in the world by the international Ramsar convention. A microcosm apart, which between the two Baronese centers preserves unique animal and plant habitats, capable of guaranteeing the conservation and proliferation of even very rare species, especially among water birds.
Nuraghe San Pietro : A quadrilobate with central keep and towers, one of which was used as a granary in the Roman period. A great enrichment of the territory in terms of historical evidence.
The 4 municipalities : The Tepilora Regional Natural Park is located in the north east of Sardinia between the municipalities of Bitti, Lodè, Posada and Torpè. Authentic villages where it is possible to meet art, tradition and food and wine delights.
A paradise, perhaps the paradise par excellence and a must for things to see in Northern Sardinia despite being located more on the central / eastern side of the island. The Gulf of Orosei has a coastal extension of over 40 km in which beaches of fine sand and rocky inlets alternate, dominated by imposing limestone bastions covered by luxuriant Mediterranean scrub and centuries-old woods. A breathtaking panorama, in which the green of the vegetation contrasts with the crystalline blue of the waters below, in a framework of rare beauty.
What to see in this area
Cala Goloritze : A beach that is definitely impossible to forget. It is a dream that becomes reality, one of the marvelous coves of Sardinia and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Declared a UNESCO natural heritage site in 1995, the water takes on colors ranging from turquoise to deep blue, the beach is made up of light pebbles. The rocks are smooth and smooth and help to spread a sense of peace and tranquility surrounded by nature. The seabed is shallow and ideal for families with children.
Cala Mariolu : This beach jewel is located just north of Cala Goloritze and is decorated with small pebbles rounded and smoothed by the eternal movement of the waters. The pebbles, called by the Sardinians ispuligi de nie, or snowflakes, make this beach truly unique.
Cala Luna : Cala Luna is a “small” isthmus of beach with very fine and particularly white sand, which overlooks one of the most evocative stretches of the Mediterranean. To the west it is characterized by a small natural lake of fresh water, the point of arrival of the waters of the “codula de Iluna”: this lake, which changes every year, is one of the peculiarities of the beach. The other peculiarity is a series of five caves that rise north of the beach, still today a natural shelter for the fauna and for the hikers who visit the beach every year.
Other beaches : The Gulf of Orosei became a National Park in 1998 and runs between the municipalities of Baunei, Dorgali and Orosei. There are dozens of beaches, coves, panoramic points and a hinterland totally to be explored and ideal for lovers of outdoor activities. The ideal is to visit the beaches via a boat excursion, but for those who want to, there are also nature trails of extraordinary beauty for each of the beaches. In addition to the aforementioned, also Cala Biriola and Cala Gabbiani should be noted.
For those unfamiliar with the Supramonte , it can be defined as a vast wild and uncontaminated territory , which extends for about 3,360 hectares in the heart of Sardinia, in the east. The Supramonte, defined as impervious and inaccessible for a long time and for this reason it has been a refuge for bandits and shepherds for centuries, in the wild heart of Sardinia and Barbagia . The surface of the Supramonte is profoundly shaped by the karst process. Walking through it you understand its wild and uncontaminated nature , in fact the various geological phases are evident inside. There are deep gorges, caves and ravines, and the spectacular limestone heels of Monte San Giovanni and Monte Fumai. It is a land that we recommend to explore with certified guides, it has happened in the past that many got lost, found dead after some time.
What to see in this area
Sa Oche and Su Bentu Grotto : It is a karst system of international fame, both for its spectacular concretions and for the internal water system. The mechanism that characterizes them is more or less this: during the rains the vein that feeds the lakes of Su Bentu swells and, through a siphon, fills the lake of the Sa Oche cave. The noise that the air produces, pushed by the pressure of the water, has been the source of many legends, many people were even able to calculate how long after, from the beginning of the breath, the water would arrive in the second cave. A natural monument.
Su Gologone spring : A few kilometers from the town of Oliena, on the slopes of the Supramonte, is the karst spring of Su Gologone, from which gushes the limpid low-mineralized waters which over the millennia have carved their way through the rocks of the mountain.
Cedrino River : To be explored with magnificent kayak excursions. The river, fifth in length of its course in the whole of Sardinia, is very important from a geological point of view as it shows the surface water evolution on the island with sediments dating back to the tertiary period up to recent times.
Monte Corrasi : The highest peak of the Supramonte. The path that starts from the town of Tuones at about 1050m above sea level takes you to the top through an almost lunar environment. Rare large trees that peek out here and there among the white expanse of limestone softened in the spring-summer months by beautiful blooms of rare Orchids, Rosa Peony, Helichrysum and Santolina and a rare endemisms that only grow here, the Currant Sardo and Nepeta Foliosa.
Two jewels, history and nature that connect. The Supramonte hides two must of the things to see in Sardinia.
What to see in this area
Tiscali Village : Mountain with an open heart. After a couple of hours of walking, along a path that makes its way between limestone rocks and juniper trunks, the village of Tiscali is ready to take your breath away. Ancient huts withstand the passing of centuries almost always in the shade, inside the mountain, close to the walls of a gigantic sinkhole created by the sinking of the top of the mountain. A unique context, in the middle of the Supramonte di Oliena and Dorgali, which for several years has continued incessantly to attract thousands of hikers.
Gorroppu gorge: The Gorropu gorge is a deep canyon, an immense crevasse located in the Supramonte, in Sardinia. It marks the border between the municipalities of Orgosolo and Urzulei and divides the ridge of the "Costa Silana" from the very steep cliffs of Mount Oddeu. The Gorropu Gorge has over 500 m. in height and a width that varies from 4 meters in the narrowest points to a few dozen in others, which is why it is considered the deepest canyon in Italy and one of the deepest in Europe. On the sides of the gorge stand huge and imposing rock bastions placed to defend this immense natural fracture that underline to the visitor the harshness of the place and at the same time the charm and mystery of an almost magical place to be discovered.
Two small villages set in the mountains of Barbagia , two jewels and two cradles of ancient civilizations. These places are of absolute importance and important from every point of view, history, art, tradition and cuisine. Lively spirit and enormous bond with their roots, discovering Orgosolo and Mamoiada you will not be on vacation, you will be in Sardinia with the Sardinians, a close connection with the local people. Murals of Orgosolo : What has made this small village more internationally famous are the Murals. Its historic center is characterized by small streets and pretty stone houses, many of which are painted by the Murals, making the town a real open-air museum.
Canto A Tenore : Orgosolo is the land of the most important and popular Sardinian choral singing both because it is a local artistic expression and because it is a social expression of the agro-pastoral world. Admiring it will be of great impact for you. The canto a tenore in 2005 was included by UNESCO among the oral and intangible heritage of humanity and is therefore considered "intangible heritage of humanity", given its uniqueness.
Museum of Masks : We are in Mamoiada and it is undoubtedly one of the MUST to see and discover. The viseras, works of the 'masters of wood', are exhibited in the museum of Mediterranean masks, where you will discover traditions related to disguises, typical of agro-pastoral communities and related to various ancient Mediterranean civilizations. You will admire masks from other towns in central Sardinia and an early 19th century Mamuthone.
Sa Pedra Pintà : Also known as "Stele Di Boeli". Found by chance in 1997 in Mamoiada, during the construction of a house. It is a find of European importance due to the presence of a dense decoration of concentric engraved circles and numerous cupels of different sizes in the upper and lower part of the stele. According to some scholars, these are symbols connected to the Neolithic cults linked to fertility and the cycle of death and rebirth. The stele is dated around 3200 BC
History, nature, charm is just something about what for a long time was the largest reservoir in Europe. It extends for about 30 km and is part of 11 municipalities in the province of Oristano. The Omodeo is part of the community sites of landscape and environmental interest. In fact, the history of a magical place is accompanied by naturalistic beauty. The lake is surrounded by basalt plateaus, rugged mountains and enveloping vegetation: holm oaks and Mediterranean scrub, as well as downy oaks , willows, poplars and elms. There is a long history that starts in 1917 when the works that will lead to the construction of what for decades will be considered the largest artificial lake in Europe begin. The purpose of this important work was to produce electricity and to exploit the waters of the Tirso river for irrigation of the Campidano . To explore, to experience and certainly one of the things to see in central North Sardinia.

With the construction of the second dam, the valley was submerged and everything, extinct animals, tropical forest, remains of Zuri, disappeared forever under the water. Almost. Every now and then, when the water level drops, the past comes out: the petrified forest, some nuraghe, light poles and even what is called the house of the foreman or by some "the keeper's house".
Authentic Villages : Sorradile, Tadasuni, Zuri are just some of the magnificent villages that populate the neighboring area of the lake. All places with many traditions and attachment to Sardinian roots.
An enchanting place, immersed in the unspoiled nature of Sardinia . This is counted among the historical forests of Sardinia and is a site of forest, landscape and archaeological interest. The symbol of the forest are the very tall trees of which it is rich and that majestically look at you from above making you feel very small compared to the grandeur of nature. These are very tall specimens of black larch pine that can exceed 35 m in height.

Sa Fraigada : It represents the main area of the forest because it is equipped. There is also a large house used mainly in summer to organize school camps for children.
Su Labiolaiu : In this area of the Florentine forest there is a large source from which spring water flows continuously and from which it is possible to refuel.

It represents the symbol of the history of Sardinia, a land that was once the cradle of the Nuragic civilization and embraced a period of time ranging from the full Bronze Age (2300 -1800 BC) to the 2nd century AD. of the nuraghi, megalithic monuments that still today do not fail to amaze with their grandeur. The valley of the nuraghi is the ideal place to dive into the mystery of this ancient civilization. This valley of extraordinary importance from an archaeological point of view is located in the territory of Logudoro, in the north-central portion of Sardinia. In the valley it is possible to admire about thirty different nuraghi, some of which are in a perfect state of conservation and which maintain their grandeur and charm unaltered. Visitors cannot fail to be fascinated by these structures, and marvel at the fact that the large blocks of stone that make them up were interlocked so perfectly thousands of years ago. A must of the things to see in Northern Sardinia.

Nuraghe Santu Antine : The Nuraghe of the monumental complex of Santu Antine di Torralba (15th century BC), the cornerstone of the entire settlement system of the Nuraghi Valley, represents the synthesis and the apogee of the architecture of the Nuragic age. At the foot of the nuraghe lies the nuragic village, only partially revealed by the excavations. Imperious and stunning, the central tower exceeded 25 meters.
Sant'Andrea Priu Necropolis : The complex, one of the most important in Sardinia, is made up of about twenty hypogean tombs of the domus de janas type, one of which with its eighteen rooms is one of the largest among those present in the basin of the Mediterranean.
Dolmen Sa Coveccada : Both due to its considerable size and because it is considered an important element in the evolution of the sepulchral architecture of prehistoric Sardinia, the dolmen of Sa Covaccada is considered one of the most important in the world. Outside the island, comparisons can be found with the dolmens of the Ala Safat necropolis in the West Bank and with that of Coste-Rouge Héraulte in France.
