Welcome to Bosa, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy .

  • Malaspina Castle: Built around the 12th century by the Tuscan Malaspina family , from its position at the top to a hill, it was possible to control all the lands and possible enemy incursions. Now there is very little left, if not the backbone, the city walls and imposing stone towers .

Divided into 3 floors between temporary exhibitions and filet di Bosa, furnishings and decorations of the stately building and a single floor dedicated to Melkiorre Melis , the most representative figure of the Sardinian artistic panorama.

You will also be impressed by the variety of colors of the paved floors in red trachyte , white marble and gray basalt of the streets, along which, in spring, you will notice the vegetable fibers exposed to the sun to dry and then be used in the packaging of the baskets.

BEACH
IS ARUTAS

A 'crescent' of colored quartz grains embraced by rocky cliffs

A dazzling, very special scenario. Hundreds of meters of very fine and rounded quartz grains, declined in an escalation of colors: pure white, delicate pink and all shades of green. The shimmering expanse plunges into the clear sea with iridescent shades, from emerald green to blue, passing through turquoise. Around a wild landscape. Is Arutas is the most famous beach in the marine area of the Sinis peninsula , known as the ‘beach of grains of rice’ for the shape and consistency of the grains. AFTERNOON EVENING

SAN SALVATORE DI SINIS

Welcome to the Sardinian Far West

The Sardinian far west in a village inhabited only a few days in September, on the occasion of the Corsa degli Scalzi . San Salvatore di Sinis, is a small village built in a sacred area since the Nuragic age and transformed for over two decades (1967-90), into set of ‘spaghetti western’. The resemblance to American frontier landscapes meant that it was rented to film producers, becoming Arizona or New Mexico village (saloon included) in films such as ‘Colt Garter’ (1968). Once the genre went out of fashion, it remained an attraction for onlookers, scenography in the twentieth century, a place of worship for millennia.

  • Church of San Salvatore: Built in the second seventeenth century, built on a prehistoric sanctuary carved into the rock. Under the left aisle, from a ladder, you enter the hypogeum which has traces of attendance that go up to the Neolithic. A corridor leads, through rectangular and circular rooms (one with a well), to the main room with a spring : in the Nuragic age it was used for the pagan cult of water. Then, in the Punic era, the area was dedicated to Sid , the healing god, and in the same vein the Romans practiced the cult of Asclepius.
  • Sas Cumbessias : The church is surrounded by sas cumbessias , small and unadorned houses built at the end of the 17th century, used as accommodation for pilgrims during novenas, in honor of San Salvatore, between August and September. In the ‘twenty years of cinema’ of the village, they were an integral part of the western scenography.
  • The barefoot race: One of the most evocative and heartfelt identity events in Sardinia. The procession involves over 800 curridoris in white habit, who accompany the simulacrum of the saint on a long dirt road from the church of Santa Maria Assunta di Cabras to the hamlet. And they bring it back to the parish the following day.
  1. Colt Garter Film : The 1968 western film shot in San Salvatore di Sinis.
  2. The barefoot race: discover the event at the end of August.

VIEWPOINTS BIRDWATCHING

scenic spots among Europe's most important wetlands

Known for their colorful plumage that takes on distinctly pink hues, in Sardinian flamingos are called sa genti arrubia, literally “the red people,” partly because from a distance their calls are reminiscent of human speech. They certainly represent the most admired, and perhaps best known, specimens that inhabit several wetlands in the Oristano area: from Mistras Pond to S’Ena Arrubia to Corru S’Ittiri or San Giovanni. They are now stationed all year round. Not just flamingos. Practicing the birdwatching, and thus the observation of various species of birds, there is indeed a chance to encounter, depending on the areas and routes chosen, other species of birds as well as learn about new places: from the heron, both ashen and red, to the beautiful osprey, which can be seen in winter at locations such as those in Mistras Pond or other fishing valleys, or at the cranes, visible especially in January in the Sale ‘e Porcus pond to many other varieties of limicolous, the term of which recalls the habit of these waterfowl to dwell in Muddy and swampy places.

The following viewpoints have also been included in the interactive map on Maps. To learn more about the avifauna of the Oristanese, one of the most important wetlands in all of Europe, it is essential to take a tour with a local environmental guide; it is definitely an added value to your trip.

  • Viewpoint pond of Sale ‘e Porcus: the largest temporary salt pond in Sardinia. It is located between the municipalities of Riola Sardo and San Vero Milis and occupies an area of 330 hectares. Considered a wetland of international importance, according to the Ramsar Convention, the Sale ‘e Porcus pond during the summer can dry up completely, going so far as to leave a thick and striking salt crust on the bottom.
  • Viewpoint pond of Pauli ‘e Sali: a naturalistic treasure a few kilometers from Cabras, and Mare ‘e pauli. Really interesting to see for the nesting of waterfowl species such as the common tern, black-winged stilt and avocet, while during the summer months they are frequented, even by cranes.
  • Viewpoint Mistras pond: also known as Mistras Lagoon and reported to be bordered to the north by Cabras pond, from which it is separated by a wide sandy cordon, and included between Capo San Marco and San Giovanni di Sinis to the southwest and Torre Grande to the east. Along its banks alternate saltcedar, obione, statice and scirpus while the tall vegetation of the pond consists mainly of rushes and ruppia.
