We are talking about the provincial road 105 , which halfway becomes 49 and commonly known as Litoranea Alghero / Bosa : a gray ribbon suspended between the sea and the mountains, the scene of irresistible views, especially at sunset. There are numerous viewpoints along the road and each offers splendid and incredible views of remote coves, landscapes rich in Mediterranean scrub, cliffs and flat rocks. It is a landscape with very few buildings, which has only a few stone sheepfolds overlooking the sea, almost sentries in the silence. A Must in the surroundings of Bosa and Alghero.

  • Reachable in : Any motorized or non-motorized vehicle.
  • Parking : Present
  • A walk is planned : No
  • Ideal time: All day.
  • Refreshment point in the surroundings : Absent along the coast road apart from some beaches (La Speranza, S’Abba Drucche).

BOSA

An enchanting and picturesque village where tradition and modernity blend with curiosity and charm.

You know Paul Klee? He was a German artist and a favorite of painting, collage and engravings. The lively canvas representing colorful houses and a castle is the best emblem of Bosa . A river that passes in the middle, the low houses of the tannery on one side, the medieval quarter on the other, a massive bulk of a castle positioned on a hill dominating everything. Welcome to Bosa, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy .

  • Sa Costa Historic Center: Entering the narrow streets of the Sa Costa district , you take a leap into the past: you return to the Middle Ages with an additional charm: Art and Tradition. You get lost pleasantly among the beautiful streets paved , in a magnificent walk through alleys, arcades , squares and steep stairways .
  • Ponte Vecchio : A bridge so beautiful that it was included by Skyscanner among the 30 most beautiful bridges in Italy , together with those of Venice, the old bridge of Florence and many others.
  • Conce Museum: Housed in the buildings once used for the tanning of skins, visiting this museum you will take a trip back in the historical activity of Bosa. A path will show you the processing techniques.
  • Malaspina Castle: Built around the 12th century by the Tuscan Malaspina family , from its position at the top to a hill, it was possible to control all the lands and possible enemy incursions. Now there is very little left, if not the backbone, the city walls and imposing stone towers .
  • Casa Deriu Museum : IHe illustrates the local artistic and handicraft production. Divided into 3 floors between temporary exhibitions and filet di Bosa, furnishings and decorations of the stately building and a single floor dedicated to Melkiorre Melis , the most representative figure of the Sardinian artistic panorama.
  • Duomo and other churches: The cathedral of Bosa represents a “rare” example of Piedmontese Baroque style. Inside there is an imposing altar and several frescoes by Emilio Scherer. Also of interest are the Cathedral of San Pietro, the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary, the Church of San Giovanni Battista and the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli with the adjoining Convent of the Capuchins.

A small village and "open-air" museum

Tinnura , a village of just 250 inhabitants, one of the smallest on the island, stands on a basaltic plateau and overlooks the fertile valley of Modolo . The village is an ‘open-air’ modern art museum : in the evocative streets and paved squares, you will admire monuments and statues of Sardinian artists (including Simplicio Derosas and Pinuccio Sciola) and picturesque murals paintings on the facades of the houses, depicting moments of rural life and the village . You will also be impressed by the variety of colors of the paved floors in red trachyte , white marble and gray basalt of the streets, along which, in spring, you will notice the vegetable fibers exposed to the sun to dry and then be used in the packaging of the baskets.

  • Murals: In the evocative streets (especially the central street) and paved squares, you will admire picturesque murals painted on the facades of the houses, depicting moments of rural life and the village.

  • La Tosatura: One of the most beautiful works created by Angelo Pilloni. The mural brings out one of the best-known agro-pastoral traditions on the island, the moment of Shearing.
  • Su Sabatteri: The artist Loi creates a mural dedicated to one of the oldest and most traditional crafts in Tinnura: the shoemaker.
  • Fountain of the zodiac : Fountain created in 2004 by the sculptor Simplicio De Rosas in Piazza del Sole. Ten basalt mouths represent the zodiac signs with a V-shaped basin.

BEACH
And S'ARCHITTU

A cove embellished with a symbol of nature's artistic vein

A magical place to visit at least once in your life, which has inspired directors and writers, and will inspire you too. In the northern part of the pretty village of S’Archittu , a very white cliff stretches out that surrounds a delightful beach and where an arch opens (for this Spiaggia dell ‘Arco), created by the erosive action of atmospheric agents on the sedimentary limestone rocks, called ‘lunar’ for the reflections they generate. Originally it was a cave, today it is a natural monument.

  • Parking: There is a small parking lot.
  • Access: Suitable for everyone. From the car park you can easily reach the beach through a 5-minute walk.
  • On-site services: Throughout the area, but not on the beach, there are bars, restaurants and services of all kinds.
  • Beach and sea: The beach is modest in size with almost pure white sand, very fine, water very often tending to emerald green and with the presence right in front of the beach of the famous arch, S’Archittu about 15 meters high , which offers exciting shows especially at sunset, when the sun sets right under the arch.
  • Wind protection: Exposed to mistral winds.
  • Recommended activities: Surfing, windsurfing and all wind-related activities. Trekking, biking, kayaking.
  • Useful info: It is wonderful to explore the whole area especially at sunset, perhaps going on the arch or with a kayak excursion (there is a small kayak rental establishment on the beach).

SAN SALVATORE DI SINIS

Welcome to the Sardinian Far West

The Sardinian far west in a village inhabited only a few days in September, on the occasion of the Corsa degli Scalzi . San Salvatore di Sinis, is a small village built in a sacred area since the Nuragic age and transformed for over two decades (1967-90), into set of ‘spaghetti western’. The resemblance to American frontier landscapes meant that it was rented to film producers, becoming Arizona or New Mexico village (saloon included) in films such as ‘Colt Garter’ (1968). Once the genre went out of fashion, it remained an attraction for onlookers, scenography in the twentieth century, a place of worship for millennia.

  • Church of San Salvatore: Built in the second seventeenth century, built on a prehistoric sanctuary carved into the rock. Under the left aisle, from a ladder, you enter the hypogeum which has traces of attendance that go up to the Neolithic. A corridor leads, through rectangular and circular rooms (one with a well), to the main room with a spring : in the Nuragic age it was used for the pagan cult of water. Then, in the Punic era, the area was dedicated to Sid , the healing god, and in the same vein the Romans practiced the cult of Asclepius.
  • Sas Cumbessias : The church is surrounded by sas cumbessias , small and unadorned houses built at the end of the 17th century, used as accommodation for pilgrims during novenas, in honor of San Salvatore, between August and September. In the ‘twenty years of cinema’ of the village, they were an integral part of the western scenography.
  • The barefoot race: One of the most evocative and heartfelt identity events in Sardinia. The procession involves over 800 curridoris in white habit, who accompany the simulacrum of the saint on a long dirt road from the church of Santa Maria Assunta di Cabras to the hamlet. And they bring it back to the parish the following day.
  1. Colt Garter Film : The 1968 western film shot in San Salvatore di Sinis.
  2. The barefoot race: discover the event at the end of August.

PARK DINO-SARDO

A magnificent paleontological journey through the history of life on earth

The long awaited moment for the little ones has arrived. Dinosardo is a Paleontological Path that guides you to discover the exciting history of Life on Earth and the bizarre animals that have populated Sardinia, Italy and the Earth for billions of years. At the park, set up outdoors in 5 thousand square meters, it is possible to see and touch reproductions of fossils of extinct animals, including dinosaurs. There are 5 dinosaur models: 1 Argentinosaurus of 10 meters, 1 cub of Argentinosaurus of 2 meters, 1 Saltasaurus of 4 meters, 1 Stegosaurus of 3 meters and the mythical Antonio ( Tethyshadros insularis ) in life size. There is also a life-size model of Quetzalcoatlus , the largest pterosaur ever found, and various other prehistoric animals found in various parts of the world. We specify that in Sardinia no dinosaur fossils have ever been found despite the island having all the characteristics to be fertile territory for their discovery. To date, the only remains of large Mesozoic (Jurassic) reptiles that have been found on the island are some ichthyosaur teeth, which is not a dinosaur, found in the Jerzu area.

AFTERNOON EVENING

VILLAGE OF ALLAI

The splendid village immersed in granite stones

It rises in the river valley Massari , surrounded by hills covered with Mediterranean greenery, strawberry trees, holm oaks, mastic trees and myrtles, at the foot of the mount Grighine, on the top of which you will enjoy the view over jars, Montiferru and Gennargentu . Allai is a very small town of less than 400 inhabitants whose first historical attestation dates back to 1341. The historic center is characterized by dark stone courtyard houses, embellished with colorful murals . Handicraft occupies a prominent place in the local tradition, in particular the processing of iscannos , chairs made from the weaving of the rush. Do not miss the tree house , made entirely of wood. A few hundred meters from the town you will see the remains of a Roman bridge over the Massari : su ponti ecciu , which was an obligatory passage from Forum Traiani (Fordongianus) towards the interior.

  • Historic Center: In the historic center of the town, the predominant element is the exposed granite , present in the walls of the buildings and in the pavements of streets, alleys and squares. Walking in the narrow streets will allow you to explore the small town, between art and tradition visible and exposed everywhere.
  • Parish of the Holy Spirit : Built in Gothic-Catalan style at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries: a single nave, marked by pointed arches, along which various chapels overlook. In the main one, with a cross vault, an eleventh-century stoup is preserved.
  • Allai Civic Museum: It is the center of the cultural life of the community. The historic building, traditionally called “Casa Saba”, is the heart of the multimedia museum system: here you will discover a typical house in the village and you will be guided on a journey through time, from prehistoric times to the Middle Ages. This is just the beginning of a journey that will make you discover the peasant life of Allai still alive in the memory of the elderly.
  • The tree house: If you are looking for a place surrounded by nature in Sardinia , to organize a trip out of town, you are on the right “way”! The Allai tree house has now become a great symbol for the whole community. Moreover, it is a popular destination for many Sardinian travelers and tourists. Moreover, very importantly, it can be visited for free and in absolute freedom, at any time of day and year.

SORGENTE DI GOLOGONE

It evokes fresh water and generous green

Su Gologone , at the foot of Mount Uddè , is the most important Sardinian spring, a natural monument since 1998, and the main resurgence of the vast Supramonte karst system. Over the millennia the water has dug meanders through the bowels of the subsoil to resurface as a small lake set between high walls of dolomitic rock. Its shades range from emerald green to turquoise , up to intense blue, depending on the reflections of the sun. You will listen to the incessant roar of the imposing mass of very pure low-mineral water, on average 500 liters per second, which gushes from a vertiginous crack that is perennially filled. Clarity and depth are an irresistible challenge reserved for cave divers who come from all over the world: in 2010 Alberto Cavedon explored it up to 135 meters.

  • Hours : Every day – 09:00 / 20:00
  • Entrance ticket : € 2.00 per person
  • Reservation : It is not necessary, in any case we recommend that you call to ask for information.
  • Clothing : Comfortable suitable for the season
  • Google Reviews : 1846 reviews – 4.6 / 5 Ratings

BEACH AND BIDEROSA OASIS

Five coves of white sand facing the emerald sea

Amazing barbagia oasis of biderosa

The shining white of the sand will suddenly open before you after a long road framed by junipers, pines and holm oaks. The feeling is of a place out of this world, in reality it exists, and how, it is the Bidderosa oasis: five dream coves guarded in a park of 860 hectares, largely made up of woods and Mediterranean scrub, protected by the Forestry Authority and entrusted to the Municipality of Orosei . Entry by car and motorbike is limited from May to the end of October, by bike or on foot there is no seasonal limit, but a regulation must be respected to preserve this quiet corner surrounded by greenery.

  • Parking: There is a parking lot at the entrance to the oasis. From there we recommend renting a bike or on foot.
  • Access: There are various paths, all signposted up to the beach.
  • On-site services: Totally absent in this area.
  • Beach and sea: It is characterized by a white and fine sand bottom among the most beautiful in Sardinia, with the presence of sea lilies and some granite rocks emerging from the water and the shoreline, which make the landscape truly enchanting. The beach is literally surrounded by vegetation, with a polychromy due to the luxuriant vegetation expertly cared for by the men of the forest. This paradise, as if that were not enough, overlooks an extremely stupendous crystalline sea, with a shallow and sandy bottom even with the presence of some rocks, and a color that embraces the different shades of emerald green, blue and turquoise.
  • Wind protection: Protected from the mistral winds.
  • Recommended activities: SUP, kayaking, snorkeling, biking and trekking.
  • Useful info: We recommend renting a bike on site, to fully immerse yourself in this paradise. For more information visit the dedicated page Oasi Biderosa

BEACH
CAPO COMINO

fine white sand, so white that it becomes dazzling

An expanse of fine white sand, so white it becomes dazzling, behind which rise huge dunes, among the largest on the east coast. The beautiful, wide and long beach of Capo Comino is an earthly paradise that is part of the homonymous tourist village of Siniscola and forms a single coast with s’Ena ‘and sa Chitta ,’ the beach of confetti ‘, a wonderful northern stretch (approx. three kilometers) of the coast. Walking along the soft beach towards the south you will see scattered rocks emerge, until you reach Capo Comino: the promontory is the easternmost end of Sardinia that closes the Gulf of Orosei to the north.

  • Parking: There is a paid parking
  • Access: Suitable for everyone and easily accessible from the car park.
  • On-site services: There is a bar with a bathing establishment
  • Beach and sea: It is a long beach characterized by a beach with very fine and compact white sand. It overlooks a crystalline sea, characterized by a shallow and sandy seabed ideal for bathing children and families, with beautiful colors that present the different shades of emerald green, blue and turquoise.
  • Wind protection: Exposed to the mistral winds.
  • Recommended activities: Surfing, kitesurfing, snorkeling excursion.
  • Useful info: In addition to a splendid beach there is also the presence of extraordinary dunes that we recommend to see.

POSADA

Perched on a cliff and dominated by a castle: Here is the village of Baronia

It is perched on a limestone hill, surmounted by a castle, from whose top you will observe a splendid panorama. Posada, a town of three thousand inhabitants awarded the Orange Flag of the Touring club and included in the club of the most beautiful villages in Italy , is one of the most evocative places on the island for history, culture and landscapes. At the foot of the village lies the valley of the Rio Posada (to be climbed by kayak), ideal for lovers of nature and archeology.

  • Center: The historic center is ideal for a walk through the alleys of the village with medieval buildings , admiring ancient houses and glimpses, also passing under the characteristic arches. Arriving up to the top of the castle you can admire a beautiful view of the sea , the Rio Posada and its mouth, the surrounding mountains and the long beach of Posada.
  • Castello della Fava : You can visit the fortress by climbing the hill: you will admire the tower and the ruins of the walls. It owes its name to a legend , which tells of the siege of a Turkish fleet and of the deception ‘ingenious’ by the posadini who made a pigeon eat the last handful of beans, causing the invaders to overestimate their resources. Today it retains its medieval charm: it is a ‘stone labyrinth’ with intricate alleys, steep stairways, arches and unexpected squares , which smell of escapes and reprisals.
  • Church of Sant’Antonio Abate: The Church of Sant’Antonio Abate dates back to the 13th century and was the church where on January 15, 1388 the peace was signed between the Judge Eleonora d’Arborea and King John of Aragon. Definitely a Must to see in the center of the village.
